Results: August 3, 2019

Persistent showers on Saturday played spoiler and impacted a number of sporting disciplines in the 2019 WinLott CBN Windward Islands Schools Games. The Netball and highly anticipated boys basketball titles were decided without the players taking to the hard courts because of the rain.

Volleyball (Male)

The day’s activities began with Boys Volleyball, where St Lucia captured the title picking up their 3rd straight win, making light work out of Grenada in straight sets at Benjamin’s Park. They took the match 25-16, 25-21, and 25-18.

In the other Match, Dominica beat St Vincent in a 5 set thriller, the final scores, 19-25, 25-19,25-23 ,24-25, 16-14.

Football

Dominica’s joy was short lived however as across the field the Nature Island boys were hammered by St Vincent in a rescheduled football match.St Vincent won easily 4-nil, with goals coming from Garret Leigerwood, Erel Hector, Trivia Fraser and Leon Wickham.

Netball

Meantime the Netball matches scheduled for the afternoon were abandoned because of rain.

St Lucia was crowned champions with 5 points, Dominica placed 2nd with 3 points on better goal difference over St Vincent, Grenada finished in 4th place with 1 point.

Basketball (Male)

The boys basketball which was pretty much wide open was abandoned at the St. Joseph hard courts due to the weather.

Grenada ended up taking the boys basketball title on points difference having finished the tournament with an identical record with St. Vincent, both teams finished with a win, and two draws.

Dominica finished 3rd with one win, a loss and a draw, and St Lucia 4th with two losses and a draw.

Upcoming Games

The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the girls volleyball title and football title up for grabs.

St Lucia will face Grenada in girls volleyball at 10:30 am at Benjamin’s park, while at noon, Dominica plays St Vincent.

In Football on Sunday, St Vincent will need a win over St Lucia to keep their hopes of finishing in first place alive when the two teams meet at 2pm.

While Grenada is in the driver’s seat when they face Dominica at 4pm, they only need a draw to lift the title.

The 2019 Winlott CBN Windward Islands School Games will conclude later in the evening with the Closing Ceremony at the Rejen’s Hotel at 8pm.
